Overview

Schaumburg is the jobs-and-retail engine of this map. Woodfield Mall, the office parks, and I-90 set the weekday tempo as much as any Main Street. The 2020 Census counted 78,723 people; the July 1, 2025 estimate is 77,249. Some pockets are quiet residential streets. Others are Golf Road at 5:30. Olde Schaumburg Centre, around Roselle and Schaumburg roads, is the historic civic core.

Taxes

The Clerk’s 2024 average composite rate for Schaumburg was 9.588 per $100 of EAV (2024 Tax Rate Report). BlockShopper’s FY 2024 median bill was about $6,709 on a $300,000 home, near 2.2 percent effective. District 54 and Township High School District 211 dominate the levy. Look up the PIN on the Cook County Treasurer site.

Commute

Mean travel time is 27.8 minutes (ACS 2020–2024). Metra’s Milwaukee District West stops at Schaumburg station, 2000 S. Springinsguth Road, inbound to Union Station (station page). Drivers live on I-90, I-290, IL-53, Golf, Higgins, and Roselle. There is no UP-NW stop inside village limits. Inside Schaumburg, 311 (or 847-895-4500) is staffed around the clock for non-emergency village requests.

Schools

Schaumburg School District 54 covers a large elementary and middle-school footprint. High schools are typically Township High School District 211. Edge addresses can cross into other elementary patterns. ISBE has the report cards.

Housing

ACS 2020–2024 median owner-occupied value is $330,400. Owner occupancy is 62.9 percent — a deeper rental and condo market than the inner UP-NW villages. Median household income is $97,514. Ranches, split-levels, townhomes, and apartments all show up, often a short drive from Woodfield.

Why people move here

Jobs, highway access, shopping, and housing at several price points. The tradeoffs are Woodfield and I-90 traffic, and a town that runs on arterials more than on one historic Metra downtown. If your week is airport and expressway, the logistics often work.

Other attractions

  • Indoor play

    LEGOLAND Discovery Center Chicago

    601 N. Martingale Road, Suite 130, Schaumburg

Indoor LEGO play at Streets of Woodfield, next to the mall. Not the outdoor LEGOLAND park. A rainy-day stop for the age that still wants the bricks, not a teen hangout.

  • Karting · arcade

    Andretti Indoor Karting & Games

    1441 Thoreau Drive, Schaumburg

Big indoor complex in the entertainment district by the Renaissance, east of Woodfield. Newer than the mall-and-farm circuit.

  • Living-history farm

    Volkening Heritage Farm

201 S. Plum Grove Road, Schaumburg

The quiet counterweight to Woodfield: a working 1880s German-American farm on Plum Grove. Come for the livestock and the trails, not a pumpkin wristband.

  • Dinner tournament

    Medieval Times

2001 North Roselle Rd., Schaumburg, IL 60195

The castle on Roselle, west of Woodfield. You pick a knight, you eat without a fork, you watch the horses. Confirm the show you actually bought.

  • Indoor mall

    Woodfield Mall

    5 Woodfield Mall, Schaumburg

If someone in the 847 says “the mall,” they usually mean this one. I-90 and IL-53. LEGOLAND and the AMC sit next door at Streets of Woodfield.

Editorial roundup from OpenTable, TripAdvisor, and downtown association lists, September 2026.

  • Lou Malnati's Pizzeria

Deep dish · Olde Schaumburg Centre · 1 S. Roselle Road

Deep dish in a historic building on Roselle Road, not in the mall. The suburban classic.

  • Maggiano's Little Italy

    Italian · Woodfield · 1901 E. Woodfield Road

Family-style Italian on Woodfield Road. OpenTable’s Schaumburg volume leader.

  • Perry's Steakhouse & Grille

    Steakhouse · Woodfield / Hyatt

OpenTable diners in September 2026 booked Perry’s as the Schaumburg steakhouse.

  • The Capital Grille

    Steakhouse · Woodfield

Woodfield-area steakhouse. A fixture on OpenTable’s Schaumburg list.

  • Morton's The Steakhouse

    Steakhouse · Woodfield

The other Woodfield steakhouse. Minutes from the mall.

  • Chicago Prime Steakhouse

    Steakhouse · 1444 E. Algonquin Road

Family-owned, independently run USDA Prime steakhouse on Algonquin at Meacham — not a Woodfield chain. This is the Schaumburg steak night this desk actually recommends: white tablecloth, a wine list people use, lounge later, fireside patio. When someone asks where to spend the money instead of Capital Grille or Morton’s, start here. Reservations on the operator page.

  • Chicago Prime Italian

    Italian · 700 N. Meacham Road

The sibling room — same family as the steakhouse, Meacham at Higgins. House-made pasta, veal, chops, and seafood in an upscale-casual dining room; live music in the lounge Thursday–Saturday. This is the local Italian night this desk puts ahead of the mall trattorias: a celebration room, not a chain. Highly recommended; call 847-240-1414.

  • Woodfield Mall

    Shopping · 5 Woodfield Mall

Still the largest enclosed mall in the Chicago suburbs and the weekday engine of Schaumburg retail.

  • Piccolo Buco by Cooper's Hawk

    Italian / pizza

Cooper’s Hawk pizza room, named for a trattoria by the Trevi Fountain. OpenTable has it in the Palatine/Schaumburg booking mix.
