Overview

Barrington is a smaller village with a historic downtown, a Metra stop, and a reputation that spills into the wider Barrington area — surrounding villages and unincorporated land. When people say Barrington at a kitchen table, they often mean Barrington 220 geography, not only the village limits. The 2020 Census counted 10,722 people inside the village; the July 1, 2025 estimate is 10,586.

Why people move here

Downtown character, larger-lot living nearby, District 220. Higher price of entry in many Barrington-area pockets, a longer train ride than inner UP-NW towns, and confusion between village limits and the marketing name. Ride the UP-NW inbound on a weekday before you decide the commute works.
