Long Grove

Long Grove is a Lake County village built around a historic downtown, Buffalo Creek, and large residential lots. The 2020 Census counted 8,366 people; the July 1, 2025 estimate is 8,343. Saturday means the shops, the bridge, and seasonal fests — apples, chocolate, and the rest of the calendar the business association prints. It touches Palatine and Lake Zurich geography even though the feel is not a Cook County Metra village.

Lake County effective rates have run near 2.6 percent in recent market write-ups. With a median owner-occupied value over $800,000, the dollar bill is large even when the rate looks familiar. Confirm the PIN with the Lake County Treasurer.

Mean travel time is 33.5 minutes (ACS 2020–2024) — the longest mean on this list. There is no Metra station in the village. Drivers use IL-83, IL-53, Lake Cook Road, and the trip to Barrington or Palatine for the UP-NW. Almost everyone owns a car: owner occupancy is 96.3 percent.

Addresses may fall in Kildeer Countryside CCSD 96, Lake Zurich CUSD 95, or Barrington 220, with high schools including Stevenson District 125. A Long Grove mailing address is not a school assignment. ISBE.

ACS 2020–2024 median owner-occupied value is $804,600. Median household income is $250,000 or more. Poverty is 1.2 percent. This is large-lot, almost entirely owner-occupied housing around a small historic commercial core.

Character, space, and a downtown that still looks like a downtown. You will drive everywhere that is not the historic block, the train is a town over, and the tax bill follows the house value. Come on a Saturday in October before you decide it is your pace.
